Win Laurent Ballesta’s Iconic Nikon D5
MPB is partnering with Blind magazine to give away a legendary piece of gear, along with an award-winning signed print!

MPB and Blind magazine have teamed up to offer you a chance to win one of the most iconic cameras in underwater photography: the Nikon D5 once owned by world-renowned photographer Laurent Ballesta.
This partnership celebrates the power of visual storytelling in fostering an understanding of our planet, sustainable photography and circularity within the photo world—MPB’s defining values. As part of this collaboration, MPB has also donated €5,000 to Sea Shepherd France, supporting their mission of protecting marine life and defending ocean ecosystems.
On offer: Laurent Ballesta’s own Nikon D5, used to capture some of the most spectacular underwater images ever seen. And that’s not all: the winner will also receive a signed print of Laurent’s iconic photo Creation, the winning image of the Wildlife Photographer of the Year awards in 2021. A unique chance to own a piece of photographic history.
Laurent Ballesta's Nikon D5: a professional camera equipped with a 20.8-megapixel full-frame CMOS sensor, an EXPEED 5 processor and a continuous shooting speed of 12 frames per second with full autofocus, designed for extreme conditions and fast-paced action.
A signed print of Laurent Ballesta’s “Creation” (60 x 90 cm): Grand Prize winner of the 2021 Wildlife Photographer of the Year Award, this print pictures the moment a school of camouflage grouper releases its eggs to form a symbolic question mark.
The competition will run from 29th of April 2025 to 28th of May 2025. The winner will be drawn at random and announced on the 29th of May 2025.

"I'm not a researcher. What interests me is setting up research projects and then going out and experiencing them as an adventure. My job today is that of an artisanal photographer." —Laurent Ballesta, Explorer of the Deep
Photographer, marine biologist and explorer, Laurent has won the prestigious Wildlife Photographer of the Year award from the Natural History Museum in London an impressive three times. His images capture the raw beauty of nature, with stunning views of life under the sea.
For the first time in his career, Laurent is passing on one of his personal cameras: his Nikon D5, used during the filming of his documentary 700 Sharks in the Night (2018), shot in the waters of Fakarava, French Polynesia.
Photography is more than just an artistic gesture: it’s an act of conscience. By entering the giveaway, you’re helping Sea Shepherd France protect our oceans, thanks to a €5,000 donation from MPB. Together, we affirm that every image can carry a powerful message—and help preserve underwater ecosystems.
