Review: Quick Look at Canon EOS R5 Full-frame Mirrorless Camera

Is it worth getting 2020's 45-megapixel full-frame mirrorless camera, the Canon EOS R5? In this short R5 review, we'll look at the Canon EOS R5's features and share some of our sample photography from the R5.

When Canon released the Canon EOS R in 2018, it was met by many people with relief, rather than with excitement. However, building on the useability and handling of the incredible Canon EOS 5D Mark IV, the EOS R was ideal. Then, in 2020, the Canon EOS R5 landed. This was the flagship of the Canon R mirrorless range, improving upon the Canon EOS R specs but cementing its own personality.

With a capable 45-megapixel sensor at its core, Canon threw the kitchen sink at this one. With 8-stop image stabilisation, 10-bit 4K video and two card memory card slots, it seems Canon didn’t hold back. They absolutely packed this one full of great features.

Mirrorless tech has blurred the lines between pro and consumer bodies, with 20 frames-per-second shooting speeds now standard features on bodies that would be classed as pro-only in the DSLR world. The Canon EOS R5 is at the forefront of this. With their hugely impressive and ever-growing range of lenses, it’s a great time to upgrade to a Canon mirrorless system.
