The Nikon 500mm f/4 P IF-ED is a pro level telephoto lens which has been especially popular with wildlife and nature photographers.  High level optical components including three ED (Extra Low Dispersion) glass are mated with top level mechanical construction featuring an Internal Focus mechanism purpose built for manual focus.  Unlike most manual focus only Nikon lenses, the 500mm P ED IF has a CPU (sometimes referred to as an Ai-P chip) and electronic data contacts to couple with Nikon autofocus cameras metering & exposure systems.
