The reformulated construction renders this lens notably lighter and smaller than previous versions, and a redeveloped optical layout is better suited for accurate color rendering with digital cameras. Two aspherical elements are featured, too, which help to reduce spherical aberrations and distortions for improved clarity and sharpness throughout the aperture range. The lens is defined by its bright f/1.2 maximum aperture, which benefits working with selective focus techniques, and also aids working in low-light conditions.
